How to pronounce Arabic

Arabic reads from right to left. Letters usually join together, while the Latin transliteration underneath helps you imitate the course voice.

1

Read connected letters from right to left

A letter can change shape depending on its position, but its identity stays the same.

2

Hold the long vowels

ā, ī and ū last about twice as long as their short partners.

3

Practise the throat and emphatic sounds

Aim for a clear contrast; an understandable approximation is enough to begin.
